The Power of Naming
My name is Deborah Rose. Roses were my Mom’s favorite flower. It was also her first name. Many years ago I took her given name as my surname. It was an act of resistance to patriarchy, but more importantly, it was an act of love – a way to honor Mom’s life, the values she passed on to me, her justice loving ways, and her spunk.
